Oakleaf Farm

With the purchase of their pristine North Florida acreage, our clients found themselves with a blank slate on which to create an idyllic setting for peaceful living and casual entertaining, including a main house and a guest cottage. Creating a sense of place through the region’s classic architectural vernacular, we envisioned structures with an implied history but a timelessness that feels fresh and appropriate for today.

We created an impression of modest simplicity in both structures, with moments of proper architectural detail and proportion. Consciously and intentionally breaking the architectural “rules” in places while adhering strictly to them in others gives the house a sense of naivete and prevents it from ever taking itself too seriously. Front and rear porches extend the living areas into the lush North Florida setting. Interior architectural details and finishes were kept simple, restrained, and historic – antique bricks, reclaimed pine floors, simple millwork, and painted board walls and ceilings all combine to create a humble, relaxed attitude.
