Quail Plantation in Georgia

Our clients’ request was for a large house on their pristine 4,500-acre Plantation in the Red Hills region of South Georgia to serve as an anchor and icon for the property, and a backdrop for entertaining on a variety of scales; it was to be grounded by tradition but embracing of the family’s younger generations.

Our response was a house that, although generally formal in feel, resounds with Southern grace, gentility, and ease of character. We called upon the broad spectrum of Southern Architectural Heritage to create a house that echoes with the notes of familiar and beloved details, arranged in a fresh yet respectful composition. We further softened and enlivened the effect with a calculated juxtaposition of detailing and materials – large to delicate, gestural to intricate, formal to relaxed – that plays across the exterior and interior of the home.
