Historic Atlanta Renovation
Designed by famed early 20th century Atlanta architect Neel Reid, this 1911 Ansley Park Residence is a classic example of Reid’s penchant for suggesting architectural pedigree without over-commitment to specific precedents. Our goal was to improve the interior function and invigorate the home’s presence by removing a series of previous additions. We designed a new Keeping Room, an adjacent Outdoor Living Room, and a terrace-level porch that stretches the entire width of the house. We placed a new pavilion as a counterpoint in the landscape, its back wall serving as an axial termination and a retaining wall allowing the new pool and lawn.
We took cues from a variety of Reid precedents and composed them into a loose but respectful interpretation, drawing from his palette of preferred materials and details where possible. In doing so, we designed spaces and structures that feel comfortable on their own but are also proud to be part of Reid’s original composition.
