Our clients sought a relaxed but sprawling home on their beautiful lakeside site in Central Georgia for their young family. Drawing from precedents of classic American country houses, we captured a rambling spirit and low-slung but elegant attitude that marries the structure of the land. A relaxed exterior material palette of thick lap siding, fieldstone, and wood shingles is a complement to the organic footprint of the house, in which a side wing reaches forward to receive guests in a welcoming gesture at the end of the long, winding, wooded drive.

Inside, traditional details are tempered by wood-planked walls and animated, nautical nods. A flowing room arrangement allows moments of open connectivity to co-mingle with more intimate private spaces, with a constant ebb and flow of scale. Porches on three sides of the house create a constant dialogue with the site and afford a casual, relaxed lifestyle in the country.
