Stone House in the Country

We were commissioned to design a comfortable home on newly acquired property in horse country north of Atlanta. In their travels, our clients had fallen in love with the architecture of Pennsylvania’s Bucks County. Finding overlapping themes and details in late 19th century precedents in Pennsylvania and Georgia and imbuing a crispness and practicality both inside and out, we sought to create a house that eludes its sense of time and focuses primarily on its sense of place. The house rests gently at the crest of a knoll, with wings of warm white lap siding and wood shingles stretching out on both sides. On the inside, the millwork and detailing are sharp and crisp, with smooth plaster finishes mixing with warm White Oak accents. A conscious mingling of the Southern tradition and Northeastern practicality grounds the house as a unique and suitable reflection of its vibrant young family.
